I’ve been struggling to work out what to get my mum for Mother’s Day this year. For the past few years I’ve done something that has topped what I did for Mother’s Day, her birthday or Christmas the year before, but this year I’m going the other way and tone it down a bit and give her a kindle. Yes, it’s £49.99 but for something that can hold so much, and is so small, it definitely seems like an investment.
I know my mum has good intentions when it comes to reading, and while we both love the tangible feels of a book and a pretty cover, sometimes they are just too big to carry in your bag. This is the problem for both of us. The Amazon Kindle has over 2 million books, newspapers and magazines so she can browse away through gardening mags then catch up on the news and unwind with her new favourite book. without getting distracted by emails or shopping.
On Saturday we’re going to my Auntie’s 50th birthday dinner so I know we’ll be out late and my mum would really want to relax on Sunday, so an at home movie matinee is definitely on the cards for the evening while I make dinner. But during the day I’m thinking a brunch while she reads one of those books she’s bought and just put to the side on a Kindle?
I think I’ve only ever seen my mum carry around a book with her during one Summer and then when she was finished with it she left it on my bookshelf! There’s literally no space on my shelf anymore – the one downside of having so many chunky books. This is where the Kindle reigns supreme; it’s light, has an anti-glare screen (hello summer reading in the park!), has a seriously long battery life, and it’s small so it can get into the fullest of bags. Maybe I could get a borrow…
If you have Amazon Prime you can still get it delivered for Sunday!
There’s always time!
What are you doing for your mum for Mother’s Day?
I’ve never been one for ‘about me’ pages so let's keep it short and sweet: I'm 25 (so I guess you could assume I'm going through a quarter-life crisis), London-based, love food, oh, and partial to a rum-based drink... or just the rum tbh.
