24 hours in Manhattan NYC

Minus the long haul flight, it’s always such an amazing experience to visit the Big Apple and there are a few things I would recommend doing if you’re only there for a short amount of time.

See the sights!
New York is full of so many amazing places that are oozing with history and culture. I love the history of the Statue of Liberty, and it’s always amazing to be able to visit it and Ellis Island on the Ferry, but the breath-taking view from the Empire State Building is right up there on the top of my list.

My advice? If you’re only visiting for a short time the best thing to do would be plan before you get there. Check the weather, work out what you want to do, where you want to go and what you want to see. There’s nothing worse than watching time slowly tick away as you scramble around. Of course you don’t have to know which exact route from A-B to take, but it’s worth knowing what you could possibly see along the way and what your options are.

Do some shopping
Home to some beautiful landmarks, such as the Flatiron Building, the Rockerfeller Center, and, if you go far enough, Central Park, Fifth Avenue is the long road that divides the East from the West and is full of some pretty amazing shops. You can find a full list of places along Fifth here, and trust me there’s a lot so you might want to take a strategic approach when it comes to shopping if you’re short on time.

Chow down!
We all know the good-ol’ US is well known for its food and portion sizes, this is something that I came to know all too well while I was out there. On our chill-day Vanessa and I decided to pop into TGI Friday’s off of Seventh Avenue, even though we have it in London, because it meant we didn’t have to think about whether we would like the food – we were having a seriously lazy day. Just as expected, the portions were huge and we were on the verge of full during the starters so we left half of it to take back to the hotel as the mains came over. Our waitress actually came over with takeaway containers and a bag saying “you gave it a good go girls”, probably so we didn’t feel so defeated, because to no one’s surprise most of the mains came back to the room too.

In hindsight we now know why she gave us ‘that look’ when we ordered all our food ha! In our defence we gave it a good go, even if we did struggle to walk afterwards.

On that note enjoy the food… just know where your limit is first. No one like to feel like they’re going to explode.

Still have time?
I always hear and see amazing reviews for Broadway shows, no matter what the production, and personally I’m quite sad that I didn’t get to see a Broadway show while I was out there so this is something that I definitely need to do next time I go back. In the meantime, I’ll have to visit the theatres in London which always have some amazing productions.

Not many people love a city break but to be honest I still have loads of family out there, so I already have an excuse to go back…

How would you spend 24 hours?
